Help! Can't login to Gallery
« on: March 30, 2005, 08:44:48 PM »

I can't login to my Gallery.  I go to login, it pops up the window, I put in username and password, hit enter, but nothing else happens.  No error message.  I'm not logged in.  Any ideas?

You password protected your Gallery directory and I notice you have some .htaccess files in your trash, so that might have a lot to do with it.

You can use .htaccess/.htpasswd with Gallery for extra protection (http://gallery.menalto.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=GalleryDocs&file=index&page=gallery1-admin.securing.php).  It was working for me for a while, but then all of a sudden, I couldn't login to Gallery anymore.

I just removed .htaccess from www/gallery and from the trash bin and I still can't login.

When you password protected the directory it changes your .htaccess file for that directory.  You also never created any valid users OR  Passwords to be used to gain access to that directory.  In effect, you were telling the system that no user had access to that directory.

If you can not log in as admin to Gallery now that it is reachable, I think you probably somehow deleted or changed your user name and password in Gallery itself by whatever files you changed or deleted using FileMan.

At one point, I did have it working.  But, I agree, I may have messed something up.  So, how can I/we resolve this?  Re-install Gallery?  If so, how?

Remove the existing MySQL database and FTP in and delete public_html/gallery and all subdirectories under that.  Then obtain the latest Gallery from Gallery's support site and it should have installation instructions in it.

Great, thanks!  I'll give that a try.  Didn't know I could install stuff like this myself.  Thought it was tied to cPanel/Fantastico.

Do you know if I can do the same for "Advanced Poll"?

Certainly you can install any application that will run in our environment.  As long as it is not something that takes an inordinate amount of CPU resources.
