Soho installation problem
« on: July 22, 2005, 05:56:47 PM »

I've purchased the Soho software and I want to set up a demo site.  This will also give me the oportunity to work with it a bit and learn how to get along with the program.

It seems I am already deep into the learning phase.

You gave me instructions to set up a sub-domain through my WHM to install an instance of Soho and built a site.  After a bit of fumbling, I created a sub domain called "soho-demo.fishingwithanet.net", then I went ahead and installed Soho from Fantastico and it all seemed to go well.

I have two problems:
1. I recieved e-mail notice from your info mail that I have two instances of Soho currently running  and I should uninstall one of them if I do not want to be charged for the two.

So I went to fantastico in fishingwithanet cpanel and sure enough, it shows an installation of Soho in place. But there should not be a installation on this cpanel. When I try to uninstall it, I get an error that says "soho-demo.fishingwithanet cannot be found".
This happens when I click on the "Prepare for uninstallation" button in the fishingwithanet cpanel.

Soho IS also installed on the subdomain I created which is named "soho-demo.fishingwithanet.net". I installed Soho from the cpanel Fantastico installer in the sub domain I created called. soho-demo.fishingwithanet. The address www.soho-demo.fishingwithanet.net displays the Soho website online.

www.fishingwithanet.net does NOT display Soho, it shows my "regular" index.html home page, etc. However, in the file structure, within the public_html folder (on fishingwithanet.net), there is a folder named "soho-demo" As far as I know, this folder should Not be there.  I did not install Soho here (at least I don't think I did).

I do not know how that folder got there. THe folder is not empty, it seems to contain the files for a Soho installation, but it is Not running on www.fiishingwithanet.net, it is running on www.soho-demo.fishingwithanet.net.

Problem 2: Two days ago, I was trying to upload images to the Soho install on www.soho-demo.fishingwithanet.net, but I could not get it to upload ANY images, I tried different formats and sizes just to see if it would upload any images, but it would not.  I could upload templates and text things, but no pictures.

Please advise...

I can easily uninstall everything and start over, but I would like any info on what I am coing wrong, THanks.
Be blessed, Tom

Hi Tom

I will address part of this, but leave the image issue to Doreen, our team member who has been instrumental in getting our Soho demo in working order.

DO NOT delete the directory soho-demo.  A subdomain is merely a sub-directory when seen on the actual server via FTP.  If you delete the directory public_html/soho-demo/ you will hose up your sub domain.

When you installed Soho on your main domain - did you uninstall it properly via fantastico or did you just delete the files?  If you just deleted the files, it could explain why it shows you have a license for Soho on the main domain.  It is something we can remedy from the Soho Partner site - well we can remedy it showing that you have a license.  We can not fix your files if you didn't uninstall Soho using fantastico.  Let us know how you uninstalled Soho and we can get this straightened out.

peace

Hi Tom:

This is a permissions issue.  You need to CHMOD  via your FPT Prog for the images directory to 755 or 777.  Hope this helps!

Take Care,

Doreen

Yes, I uninstalled the soho application on my main site with fantastico before I did the new installation on the sub-domain cpanel. The new installation  was also done with fantastico.

I changed the permissions on the images folder and I can upload images now.  Thanks for the help.  I am somewhat hesitant to change file permissions on CMS folders without knowing just what I am opening up to the world.

Thanks for prompt response,
Tell me what to do about the "double install" issue.

Thanks, Tom

I'll disable your main site's soho license at soho and ask them why it still shows when fantastico un-installed it.

peace
