Did you only backup the database?  Or did you do a complete backup?

If it is only the database, just do a restore of the database from the same screen you did the backup from.

If you did a complete site backup, that does NOT backup the databases. Those are separate completely and do not reside in your home directory structure.  If you need to restore from a home directory backup and a mysql backup, please see the "How Do I" thread about moving your php & mysql website.  It is pretty much the same thing since you are having to restore from your local PC.

A word of caution - do NOT be impatient.  Don't click keys or abort because you think it is hung up because it doesnt show you any progress.  I had a customer database once that took 3 HOURS before I started seeing files actually being restored.  Php limits the process somewhat.

I did a complete backup, which apparently did backup the databases.

I restored the drupal directory and restored the drupal database from the backups, but it's still hosed (technical definition of "hosed:" the site has apparently lost its CSS info and I can't reset the theme settings because I can't log in).

Fantastico did a backup when I did the 4.6.2 upgrade, but there doesn't seem to be any way to use it AFAICT.

I think I'll see if I can revive the site on my powerbook and then try to upload it.

I don't think I'll use fantastico anymore if I can avoid it.

Ouch... I take it you had done some customization or adding of modules to Drupal and then tried to use Fantastico to upgrade the version?

If so, that isn't a fantastico problem.  Even had you manually done the upgrade you would have had issues.  Any time you add mods or modify an application upgrades become difficult.  We haven't even attempted to upgrade our Webmaster Resources to the latest version of Mambo for just that reason.  We apply security patches and leave well enough alone because it is too time intensive to un-install mods, upgrade and re-install them.

OK. I fixed it.

I downloaded the full site backup, installed drupal on my G5, and got the site working here.

Then I uploaded everything (it took several tries to get it all right).

Now it works (back at version 4.5.2, though).

I'm going to do the 4.6 upgrade by hand.

Thanks!

Ah a testament to the importance of the 'back up often' mantra - especially when upgrading applications.  smiley

If you don't mind sharing, how about putting up a post on how you did your upgrade when you are finished doing it manually?  I am sure others would find it helpful.  One of the major stumbling blocks we have come across to manual upgrades of Mambo is that we have been unable to find a "upgrader beware" post OR definitive instructions on manual upgrades anywhere.  Since many of our Mambo sites are ones we run for design/maintenance customers, and each has different modules and customization, we just plain don't want to experiment.

Modules tend to get 'goofy' with upgrades to the core application.  Some stop working at all.  Some provide...interesting new results...chuckle
