It sounds like you did not configure your Gallery using auto configuration wizard and have not configured a compression routine. For thumbnails I believe you have to make sure you have ImageMagick checked off somewhere in there.
Be sure to go through every screen in the configuration area of Gallery or you will undoubtedly leave something unconfigured.

Did going through the configuration wizard fix your issues?

I took a look at the thread you specified and it seems as though, looking at the bottom, the issue was a user error in specifying the correct directory for their albums. I would also check the permissions on the directories it is attempting to create thumbnails in. Try going to our tutorials section and looking at the Gallery tutorials there. That's about the only advice I can give you besides posting to the Gallery official support forums and seeing if someone who works with Gallery a lot is willing to take a look at your configuration. Please let us know how this turns out. peace Wolf

I am now able to post photos in gallery. A while back I knew that a gallery folder that was in the trash wound up in the public.html directory on the same level as photos, which webs4christ had set up gallery for me to use. Since then in checking Fantastico, I had to install an upgraded version of gallery..... Anyway, I wound up deleting the folder labeled gallery and its one or two files. Somehow that must have helped to be able to upload the photos and create thumbnails. I now have a problem that the files are not protected. Anything you can recommend for that Thanks for any suggestions.

Hmmm... I am not exactly sure by what you described, what happened. But yes, if you were trying to use a Gallery we installed when you first opened your account, it probably WOULD not work correctly with Mambo since we install appliations as stand alone and the integration of Gallery and Mambo requires specific placement of certain directories as it says in the instructions for integration.
I am not sure what you mean about the files not being protected. Can you clarify a bit?
