How do I setup email in Mozilla Thunderbird

I have attempted to setup one of my email accounts using Mozilla Thunderbird.  I have no problem retriving mail messages but the mail server refuses to accept a connection when I send mail.  I have outgoing server settings (SMTP) set to mail.mydomain.name.

Have you looked at the tutorials?

that should work.  If it does not, it may be that your ISP doesn't allow you to SMTP except to their servers, so you would have to ask them.
