OSC Issue
« on: March 14, 2006, 10:12:30 PM »

I have a website odysseyshop.net in which I installed osc.  It has been working fine for months.  After recent web attacks, it showed no signs of problems.

I was just checking it out, and when I try to enter shop now (or catalog) I get an error:

Server Requirement Error: register_globals is disabled in your PHP configuration. This can be enabled in your php.ini configuration file or in the .htaccess file in your catalog directory.

Never got this before and don't want to mess anything up.

I tried to go into admin, and I get same error.

Did changes to website after recent attacks change anything?

What do I need to do?

We had a mod that emulated register_globals being on without them actually BEING on.  Initially that was thought to be sufficiently secure, but sometime in January there was a hack running around that used that mod as an attack point.

We then disabled that mod as well and sent an announcement to anyone who has subscribed to news announcements in the support center, as well as posted a knowledge base article about how to enable register_globals for your site alone via .htaccess.

That should work for your OSC installation.

For OSC do you know which htaccess file is the write one?

I can't get in the catalog at all and get the error.  When I pull up the directory, I have htaccess files all over the place.

I tried a couple but no luck.

Do I need to take those back out?

Thanks,

Hmmmm

You shouldnt have a lot of different .htacess files in various directories.  The few times we have seen that it is because a site has been hacked. The .htaccess *I* would edit is the one in your main public_html.

I have quite a few htaccess files...  Is is safe to remove them?

The error I get is as follows when trying to open the catalog is:

Server Requirement Error: register_globals is disabled in your PHP configuration. This can be enabled in your php.ini configuration file or in the .htaccess file in your catalog directory.

I have added the following to the beginning of the files...

php_flag register_globals on
php_value session.use_trans_sid 0
php_value register_globals 1

and nothing has changed.  I have edited the public_html; the osc; and the osc/catalog directories amonst others.  I'm editing by pulling up in notepad and saving without wordwrap.  Using Dreamweaver and saving directly to server.

Help Mr. Wizard..............................

Alphawolf - if no ideas I may need to get support to look at it... our catalog has been down for several weeks now.

Visit Website: www.odysseyshop.net

Thanks for any help.

Man I wish i had some more suggestions.  But we added those lines to the .htaccess file in 4 OSC sites we manage and everything then started working fine...so....

I hesitate to tell you to remove .htaccess files, even though i dont think they should be there.

put in a trouble ticket - but please wait a couple of days since we only troubleshoot 3rd party apps as we have spare time and right now we have multiple issues caused by a OS upgrade which changed how some apps function.  This is all sysadmin work and all 3 of us are up to our eyeballs - and I am out of town on dial up connection to boot.

Also try the OSC site and see if they have anything to say about this OR about so many .htaccess files.

Thanks for the post.  I looked a little more and reviewed both the OSC and your info posted here.

Tada...believe it or not, even though I cut and paste the magic words, when reviewing it I noticed a missing underscore....

Ha...

At least it's working now...

Thanks for the guidance!
