I was ftp (backing up) a copy of everything from my root directory down and noticed i was pulling down a lot of statistics information from the /tmp directory. That got me to thinking about how do I clean up these statistics directories. Is it safe to just delete the older files (such as *.log)? Or does the server clean these /tmp files after a certain period of time? I know the solution would be to just not download these directories but if they are taking up some of my allotted space - I may decide to keep a shorter time frame of statistics if that is possible.

Yep you can safely delete anything in the stats directory - though it will affect the reported stats you see in Cpanel. You should be able to get info from the stat program authors on what file names relate to what application etc. Yeah stat directories can get really large. I've never had any of ours wiped though because I like historical data...chuckle
