Global Config Problems
« on: July 16, 2006, 07:16:08 PM »

I tried to modify the Global Configuration in Mambo when I ran into problems. I changed the configuration.php from unwrite to writeable within the control panel which allowed me to make changes in the Mambo Adiministration's Global Configuration window. Once I saved the changes I attempted to go back into the control panel and change the configuration.php back to its original persmissions so that it was no longer "writeable". However, now I can no longer get into the web site nor the admin site. I get the following message:

Warning: main(): open_basedir restriction in effect. File(/includes/version.php) is not within the allowed path(s): (/home2/graceadm/:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php:/tmp) in /home2/graceadm/public_html/home/includes/mambo.php on line 41

Warning: main(/includes/version.php): failed to open stream: Operation not permitted in /home2/graceadm/public_html/home/includes/mambo.php on line 41

Fatal error: main(): Failed opening required '/includes/version.php' (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php') in /home2/graceadm/public_html/home/includes/mambo.php on line 41

Would appreciate your help !!

It sounds like you messed up one of the configurations you changed.  What did you change?
You need to edit the file directly since you cant get back in admin.  Use a php editor like DZphp or some FTP programs have an editor. I use CuteFTP and it does.  Until you change the configurations you messed up back you wont be able to get in to mambo.

Yeah TJ is correct.  You will have to access the configuration.php file and edit it manually in order to get your site back up and running.  What exactly did you change in it, and why? If you post the changes maybe we can tell you where you went wrong.

I used the control panel where I changed the permissions on the configuration.php file.  I checked all the boxes in the execute row and this changed the global config tab to writeable.  It modified the global configuration tab in the Mambo admin page so I could make global changes to all pages.  I saved the changes and reset the permissions back to the original setting by unchedking the boxes that I previously checked.  Now I cannot get to anything.

I need help in trying to get back to where I was.  What "specifically" do I need to do?  When it comes to this stuff I am a novice and need all the help I can get.

Thanks in advance for your help.

**SNIP** It modified the global configuration tab in the Mambo admin page so I could make global changes to all pages.  I saved the changes **SNIP**

Here is what you need to specify and maybe someone can tell you what you did wrong.  WHAT global changes did you make.  What was the old setting, what did you change it to.

Ok I looked at your directories and am a bit concerned because I see an install.php in there that should never ever be left hanging around.  (At least I have never seen it before)  How did you install this?  Via Fantastico or manually?  If via fantastico, did you install anything else manually that you integrated into mambo?

When I go to your site it is redirecting to:

http://www.gbcpowell.com/home/installation/installation/installation/installation/installation/installation/installation/installation
/installation/installation/installation/installation/installation/installation/installation/installation/installation/installation
/installation/index.php

And I get a firefox error message that says:

Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.

You definitely need to be specific on exactly what you changed - what it was before you changed it and what you changed it to - in order for us to have a clue on any kind of advise.  You totally hosed something in the configuration file to produce this kind of output.

1.  Regarding the changes in the global configuration within the Mambo Admin pages- I changed the setting not to include the authors name when posted to the web site.  I then saved the new configuration in Mambo.  I then went back to cpanel, file manager and found the configuration.php file which I set back to the original setting so the global config file in Mambo would go back to "unwritable".  Once I made the change to the configuration.php file in cpanel, the site went down.

2.  Regarding the install.php file, I do not know how that got there.  I have loaded some things from Fanastico such as a blog or other programs to test them out, but I have always gone back via Fantastico to uninstall them.  Could there have been a problem with this process?

3.  Specifics of change in cpanel.  For the configuration.php file, there are 9 boxes which can be changed.  A row of three for Read, a row of three for write and a final row of three for execute.  I changed the final row from all "x"s to none, which made the file writeable in the Mambo Admin page.  Once I made that change, I went back and x'ed all of the boxes in the execute row back to what they were previously.  Which I assumed restored the Mambo Admin global config template back to "unwritable".

4.  If this is not repairable, is there any chance of a restore.....with the understanding of a cost to do so?

Sorry none of us have been in here in a couple of days because we are putting a new server into production and have been swamped.

There is no charge - tell us what directory you did your full backup to before you made the changes and we will restore it for you.  Submit it in a trouble ticket through the support center at http://www.alphaone-tech.com/tech-support
