I am just getting started and liked the features of Mambo. But installing from fantastico requires an install in a subdirectory. How can I configure my site to display www.mydomain.com when someone visits and get them into mambo? I know that I can redirect all domain.com traffic to domain.com/mambo, but is that the only way?

Hi Fantastico asks which directory you would like to install Mambo in. The first page of the installation has a section that reads: Install on domain [_________|v] Install in directory [___________] Leave empty to install in the root directory of the domain (access example: http://domain/).So it is possible to install directly into the main directory by leaving the second field completely empty. However, it does warn that installing into an existing directory may give unpredicatable results (for example if it attempts to overwrite files it does not have enough permissions on). Be sure to make a backup of your current files before proceeding with the install and you may wish to remove any files (e.g. index.php) from the directory you wish to install to to prevent permission problems. Hope this helps. Please, don't hesitate to post a follow up if you run into problems.

Mambo was installed for me. It currently resides in a directory also. How difficult will it be at this point to use fantastico to install as you suggest? I have really no data to back-up so I thought I would give the move a try

It is not recommended that you install it in the main directory since if you uninstall it you MAY have problems. Because of this we never preinstall anything in main publi_html.
Use redirect to point from index.html to the subdirectory mambo was installed in.

I was TOLD to install Mambo to the top level domain directory. Am I to understand that I should NOT install to this level but to install it to a sublevel domain. I am getting conflicting information...

Most people don't install things in the main directory. Its easier to keep your files separated. I only use my main directory for my index.html file. You can install in the main directory but you have to uninstall frontpage extensions and remove the images directory first.

Mambo may be installed on the root (top level) of your domain by removing/renaming the existing "images" folder via FTP. I also removed the line that said "images" from the fantastico_fileslist.txt file. I think this will prevent Fantastico from removing the images folder IF I choose to remove Mambo.

Yep, but you would want it to do so if you removed Mambo, wouldn't you? Since it would contain mambo images.
